Human

If you choose to be a good friend to those who are good to you too, you're not a very good friend. Unconditional love can be a pain at times, but conditional love is not love. But conditional love is so human, just like how sin is human. Human. Human nature. What is nature? Human doesn't look like a word anymore. Human. Human.

Nature: The inherent character or basic constitution of a person or thing/ humankind's original condition

But where we are now isn't our original condition is it? If all were in its right place, in its original place, God would be walking the earth with man and sin would not be a barrier between God and His creations. In it's original place, the earth is pure and good. Because God created all, and He said Himself, "and it was good." About man, He said, "it was very good." Then because of love, man was given a choice. And with that choice, man sinned and fell.

So what we call human nature today... it's not really natural, is it? I have questions, and I offer no answers. This is just me rambling and putting my thoughts into words. Sometimes what we say makes no sense at all, but we just do it to free the thoughts from our minds. If not, they'd be bouncing off the walls, keeping us up all night.

I always think of murderers, cannibals (again, not those affected by drugs, but feel it in their bones that it is perfectly natural to eat human flesh), people whose minds fracture and create multiple personalities. Your environment vs. nature. Movies like We Need to Talk About Kevin, Identity, Mysterious Skin...  it all seems like the same thing. Like the mind, in its nature, forces personalities, forces disorders upon a person to protect their bodies. It is always to protect. People like Issei Sagawa who see consuming another person's flesh as an extension of a kiss, they don't do it to harm, but to show affection. Then others who just don't feel at all, who have no way of receiving or expressing love and hate and anger... some of them turn into killers. They don't feel remorse or guilt, not even the adrenaline that comes with the kill. How are people programmed. How do they pick up things from their environments that mould them to be who they are? I'm sure it is not entirely the effect of the environment alone, for two children can grow up in the exact manner yet turn out completely different. In a tough neighbourhood, one can grow to have a great hunger for justice and the other can grow to commit crimes that seem natural. Even in Mysterious Skin. One grew up quick, with a cold heart towards the world, and began selling his body because he saw himself as nothing but live meat. And the other grew up but remained as a kid, and his mind presented his suffering as a memory of an alien abduction. I really wonder how we are programmed. How we choose to take and ignore, how we decide, what makes us say yes to one thing and no to the other.

Anyway anyway. I was thinking about conditional love. And I rambled on. What a load of empty words and observations. Good night.
