We need quality humans in our lives. People that actually lift us up instead of pulling us down. People we can depend on. People that are actually part of our lives and not a pretty picture we walk past every day and imagine having conversations with, nor an old photograph we talk to as if the very same person from years ago still existed today. We need to be selective; I don't think our hearts are capable of that much elasticity to carry the weight of what-if and what-used-to-be. Holding on to people who are clearly no longer around damages you in ways you would never believe. How can you plant your feet on the ground when your head refuses to move to the present? Holding on to an idea of a person will drive you crazy as well. Why do we objectify the people we claim to love and force them into a particular mold, and then go apeshit crazy when we realise that who we think they are and who they are in reality are not the same? Let them go.
If we actually plant our feet on the ground and look at the present, we will find that we are already surrounded by good people who bring us good vibes and actually love us like we do them. Or even more. Why go looking for something you already have, convincing yourself that you will never be happy until you get what you want? People aren't all that swell. We are not that swell either. We gotta stop putting people on pedestals and look at them as they are, not who we want them to be. If they're here, great. If they're gone, it was good while it lasted. Sometimes people come for a season. You can't stay in Winter all the time. You don't have to keep them around forever, because if you do, you begin to freeze them in that very state you remember them. And when they behave otherwise, you cannot reconcile it within yourself.
Let people go.
You need to free yourself.
