Time

Time is never a friend. It never asks to be acquainted with you. It pushes your body forward every second but it pulls your mind back every now and then. It is both the parent telling you it’s time to go, and the child begging you to stay and play. You have no power over time, you can’t tell it what to do or where to take you, it moves you as it wishes and traps you when it wants. And even in dreams, where time doesn’t seem to have a say and you can travel anywhere in a short two-hour sleep, it jolts you awake, and it is always rude when it does so. It brings in the right people when the time is not right, and surrounds you with the wrong people when the time is right. It laughs at you, watches you spin as you try to keep up, as you try to hold on to something while your world topples over. It is never polite, never kind, never understanding. And it is never on your side.
