Sorrow is a heavy friend that keeps you to himself and rejects every other helping hand. He is possessive and he captures you in your head even when your body is functioning in line with the rest of society. Sorrow whispers half truths in your ears when the radio is loud and your friends are all chatting. He pierces your soul when you crack jokes all day and laugh. The more he stabs you and twists the knife in you, the louder you laugh to convince yourself you are more than fine. Sorrow wears you out but keeps you awake all the time. He makes you lie down and shut your eyes but he constantly fills you with words that do nothing but release tears in your fake slumber. He makes you immobile even when you are crowded with friends, he silences you when laughter makes you tired, he keeps you in his grasp and you allow him to hold you. You close your eyes and lay still even when everyone around you is moving talking going about their day and they leave you alone because they think you're asleep. But you never really sleep. You never really rest. Sorrow grabs your tongue when you try to introduce him to a friend. Instead he punches you in the gut so you can't really verbalise anything at all. Your lips quiver, you feel sick, your eyes grow hot. And you pacify sorrow by finding an empty space to spend time alone with him. Sorrow hates being in the light and hates being heard by anyone but you. He hates being forgotten and never fails to remind you, every minute of your day, wherever you are, that he is the burden you wear on your face so you work extra hard to look pretty and happy and normal. He hates being ignored and always demands your attention. No matter how often you put him in the corner, he always comes back. Sorrow is determined to have you all to himself, he doesn't really care if you are lonely or not. He feeds off your insecurities and wavering heart, he feeds off your energy or what's left of it, he feeds off your unbelief. Feed it enough and he will take over, feed it enough and you will be entirely consumed.
